We’ve all heard the rumors of a baby brother to the Hypermotard 1100, but now the the Hypermotard 796 is in the delivery room! As of late there has been lots of speculation on the differences between the 1100 and its new offspring, but Ducati has just released some preliminary information so speculate no more! The full unveiling is scheduled for October 11-15 with the International Press in Bologna and the bike will of course be at EICMA in Milan.
Ducati has developed the new Hypermotard 796 to be an accessible bike. They want to open the Hypermotard market up to more riders so they have made the following key changes that will attract a new crowd to the Hypermotard.
Ducati Hypermotard 796 specs and information:
Dry Weight: 368lbs - 27lbs lighter than the HYM1100
Seat Height: 32.5in - 0.8in lower than the HYM1100
Power: 81hp
Torque: 55.7lb-ft
Bore x Stroke: 88×66
Clutch: APTC “wet” slipper clutch
Instruments: Streetfighter style
Switchgear: Streetfighter style
ECU: Siemens
Colors: tank/frame/wheels
1. red/red/black
2. matte white/racing black/black
3. matte black/ racing black/black
This is a formula that has worked very well for Ducati in the past. The Monster 696 has been the best seller in the Ducati lineup since its release last year. I’m not sure if the new Hypermotard will go this same route, but it is possible as I believe it will be more fun to ride than the Monster 696 due to it’s riding position and new engine.
The new Ducati Hypermotard 796 is scheduled to arrive in dealerships starting in December of this year. The US MSRP is $9,995 for all color combinations. Expect a full lineup of accessories to accompany the launch as well (though many will come from the 1100).
