QT Track Club strikes again!

As I’ve alluded to, but not really explained in previous posts… I am a member of a private track club. This is the first year for the club, but in its infancy it is running quite well! We have 14 members and have secured 5 days this year at Putnam, Nashville and Talladega. At this point we have done 3 of the 5 days and just went to Putnam, which is where this photo is from - just starting the grueling front straight, my KTM doesn’ t do so well with that long of a straight!

The primary reason we formed this track club was safety! We were all tired of going to a track day run by any of the main organizers (NESBA, STT, etc…) and having 40+ riders in a group. You really don’t get much track time when there are this many riders as someone is always cracking up. I’ve been to track days when I was only able to ride about fifteen minuets total in the morning three sessions - that’s ridiculous!

Our idea was to start a private club so we could have as few people out there as possible. We have 14 members this year and it looks like it will grow easily next year as people are very interested in what we are doing. We will cap the club size to around 20-30 members.

Usually we run two half hour session in the morning sessions and have an open track all afternoon. This has worked out quite well even though there are members with vastly different abilities. I believe this works since we all know each other and are used to riding with each other. We ride respectful towards each other, but we still ride hard.

The best thing about the club is how much open track time you get. Think about the last track day you went to; how many uninterrupted laps did you get where you weren’t passing, being passed, being held up in the corner, etc…? I think it is much easier to work on your skills when you have an open track every time around so you can hit the same brake markers at the same speed and really focus on what you are doing rather than what the guy in front or next to you is doing.

Okay, enough on that… I could go on all day telling you the positive aspects of the club, but I won’t!
