Well the warm weather is on its way it seems, but does it even matter? We have been riding in the dirt a bit lately and all I can say is that I wish I would have started this sooner. I am quite interested to see how my new dirt riding skills will help me with supermoto and the road course. I started riding the dirt this summer so I am quite green at it, but learning none-the-less.
We went to Saddle Back when it was about 7˚ F out with snow on the ground. I guess that was in late January. We stayed on fairly even ground and had a little mishap on the one hill we tried to ride. Rick had the pig, a 640 Adventure, with him and decided to climb the hill after I made it on my YZ250F. Well, there is a slight difference between the two bikes, like he had 4 gallons more fuel and at least 100lbs of bike mass. Anyhow, he made it about half way and had to turn around. Well that is where the problem started. He got the pig turned around and started back down the hill, but both his front and rear brake rotors were coated with ice, it was that cold out. So he continued to pickup speed as he went down the hill until the point when he decided to bail and lay the bike down due to a barb wire fence. It took three of us to pick the pig up and get it untangled from the barb wire. Rick was okay and the pig just had a few scratches and a busted front fender. We continued on.
The last two weekends in a row we have headed down to S-Tree in the Daniel Boone National Forest to ride a loop there that is a little over 40 miles. We had better weather, but it is still cold when there is water standing in your boots and it is around 40˚ F out. But man, is that a fun place to ride. Lots of fast sections a few technical sections and the entire trail is full of quite large rocks and roots which make it interesting. So far that is my favorite off road place to ride.
Rick once again gets the iron man award for taking the pig there both times. It has been muddy as hell there and he has handled that bike amazingly well. No real issues to speak of. I think he is going to get aKTM 250 2 stroke soon though Good for him, he deserves it.
This weekend we are trying to get to Circleville, OH and get on the kart track CRP with our 560’s since Ed, Rick and I all have them now. I’m really eager to take this bike back out as I had a blast on it last year, but only got to 3 or 4 track days with it.
