Guess which way the track turns?

tire

Okay, a little late on this one, but what can I say… Our track club went to Talladega GP a couple of weeks ago. I decided to put a fresh set of slicks on since my tires were just about trashed. I went to see my local Metezleer/Pirelli race tire distributer who specializes in supermoto bikes and he set me up with this; a Metzeler Drift front and a Pirelli rear. The thought was that they would last longer since Talladega is much larger and faster than a kart track.

The front held up fine, but as you can see the rear is done for. On the left side it is all the way to the wear indictors. This was only 5, 30 minuet session too! I rode Ed’s 560 for the last part of the day since my bike decided to stop working for no apparent reason. The funny thing is that the rear is for superbikes! you would think the supermoto would stress it much less. Maybe it was due to tire pressure, but I ran what was directed. Point is… I’m not too happy with the milage of this tire. The Dunlops I was previously running were much better as far as wear, probably stability and traction too - I really liked the Dunlop and that is probably what I’m going to go back to.

Talladega only has one right hand turn so the bike was spending the majority of its time on the left side. Anyhow, now I need another tire since I’m heading to Putnam Park this Sunday. I’m not happy that I have to ride my 560 there, but my 800SS track bike isn’t ready and my HM1100S still isn’t here! I am told though that it will be here later this month. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that I don’t blow up the 560 there this weekend. That front straight is such a killer for that bike. The rest of the track is fine though. The 560 is no stranger to Putnam though, it has been down there 3 times. Twice by me in the rain and once by Ed!
